Privacy Notice
Last updated 15 May 2026
The short version
We collect the minimum we need to run the seeder map and tell you when an Atreeum village is happening near you. We don't use tracking cookies, we don't run ads, we don't sell data, and we don't share it with any advertiser. Three companies see your data because they help us run the site (Formspree, Cloudflare, and our email provider). Everything else stays with us.
If you'd rather we deleted your information, email hello@atreeum.co.uk and we'll do it within 30 days. No questions, no friction.
1. Who we are
Emanja Ltd (trading as Atreeum) is a company registered in England & Wales, company number 15800489, registered office in Suffolk, United Kingdom. Emanja Ltd is the data controller for the information described in this notice. In this notice we refer to the trading style “Atreeum”, “we”, “us”, or “our”.
2. What data we collect
When you register as a seeder
To put a pin on the map and send you progress updates, we ask for:
- Name (first and last)
- Email address
- Postcode (used to attribute you to a parish and to draw your pin)
- Occupation and rough income, or benefit entitlement if not in work
- A short free-text answer about your circumstances (optional)
When you visit the website
Our web server and a small number of third-party services receive standard technical information when your browser loads the site. This includes:
- Your IP address (necessary to deliver web pages to you)
- The kind of browser and device you're using
- The pages you visited and the time you visited them
- The site that referred you, if any
We do not store this information for analytics or advertising. Our web server keeps a short log for security and abuse prevention.
What we don't collect
We do not ask for, and do not have, your home address, your date of birth, your phone number, your bank or payment details, or your National Insurance number. We don't use tracking cookies. We don't run an analytics product (no Google Analytics, no Plausible, no Mixpanel). We don't run an advertising pixel (no Meta pixel, no Google Ads conversion tag, no TikTok pixel) on the seeder map or the main site.
3. Why we use your data, and the lawful basis for it
| Purpose | Data used | Lawful basis (UK GDPR) |
|---|---|---|
| Display a pin on the public Atreeum heat map | Postcode (rounded to parish), parish name | Consent (you give it when you register) |
| Send you parish-specific and Atreeum-wide updates | Name, email, postcode | Consent |
| Identify the Radicle (first seeder) for each parish | Name, email, postcode, registration timestamp | Consent & legitimate interest in operating the Radicle mechanism honestly |
| Demonstrate local housing need in planning applications | Aggregate parish counts, occupation summary (no identifying detail) | Legitimate interest in delivering rural affordable housing |
| Keep the site online and secure | IP address, browser info, request logs | Legitimate interest in operating a safe website |
| Respond to your queries and requests | Whatever you send us | Consent, contract (if you've registered) |
4. Who we share your data with
We share your data with a small number of service providers who help us run the site. We have a contractual relationship with each of them and they may only process your data on our instructions.
- Formspree (operated by Formspree Inc, United States). Receives your seeder registration form submission and forwards it to us by email. Formspree's privacy policy.
- Cloudflare (operated by Cloudflare, Inc, United States). When configured, our serverless backend stores seeder records, performs postcode-to-parish geocoding, and sends auto-response emails. Cloudflare also provides DNS and DDoS protection. Cloudflare's privacy policy.
- Namecheap (operated by Namecheap Inc, United States, with hosting infrastructure in the UK and EU). Hosts atreeum.co.uk and the web server logs.
- Google (Google LLC, United States). Serves the web fonts we use (Fraunces, Inter, JetBrains Mono) via fonts.googleapis.com. When your browser loads a page, it sends your IP address to Google to fetch the fonts. We do not use Google for anything else. Google's privacy policy.
- OpenStreetMap Foundation (United Kingdom). Serves the base map tiles for the Atreeum heat map. When the map loads, your IP is sent to OpenStreetMap. OpenStreetMap's privacy policy.
- Ordnance Survey / ONS Open Geography Portal (United Kingdom). Provides the parish boundary data displayed on the map. When the overlay loads, your IP is sent to the Office for National Statistics' ArcGIS endpoint.
We do not sell or rent your personal data to anyone. We do not share it with advertisers, data brokers, or marketing networks.
5. International transfers
Some of the providers above are based in the United States. Where data is transferred to a country outside the UK or EU, the transfer is protected by the UK International Data Transfer Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, or by an adequacy decision where one applies. The data sets transferred are small and limited to what's necessary to deliver the service (your form submission, in the case of Formspree; your IP address, in the case of Google Fonts).
6. How long we keep your data
- Seeder registrations: kept for as long as you remain a seeder, plus 12 months after you unregister, so that we can answer queries about your past Radicle status if needed. After that we delete it.
- Email correspondence: kept for 24 months after the last reply, then deleted.
- Web server logs: rotated after 30 days.
- Aggregate parish counts used in planning applications: kept indefinitely, but these contain no identifying detail.
7. Cookies
We do not set tracking cookies or advertising cookies. The only cookies set by our domain are the technical session cookies needed to keep the site working (for example, to remember if you've opened a popup or accordion). These cookies do not identify you and do not leave your device. They expire at the end of your browsing session.
If you load the live map, OpenStreetMap may set its own cookies under its domain to manage tile delivery. You can disable third-party cookies in your browser without affecting your ability to use the site.
8. Your rights under UK GDPR
You have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Right of access: ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Right to rectification: ask us to correct anything that's wrong.
- Right to erasure: ask us to delete your data ("right to be forgotten"). We'll do this within 30 days unless we're legally required to keep it.
- Right to restrict processing: ask us to stop using your data while we sort out an issue.
- Right to object: object to our use of your data on grounds of legitimate interest.
- Right to data portability: ask us to send your data to you, or to another controller, in a structured machine-readable format.
- Right to withdraw consent: at any time, with no impact on processing already carried out under consent.
To exercise any of these rights, email hello@atreeum.co.uk. We'll respond within one calendar month. We won't charge you anything unless the request is manifestly unfounded or excessive, in which case we'll explain why and what the charge would be before doing anything.
9. Children
Atreeum is intended for adults considering buying a home. We don't knowingly collect data from people under the age of 18. If you believe a child has registered as a seeder, email us and we will delete the registration.
10. Automated decision-making and profiling
We do not make any decisions about you using automated processing or profiling. The Radicle is determined by a simple timestamp on registration. No algorithm decides whether you can register, where you can register, or what price you pay.
11. Security
We protect your data with sensible safeguards: HTTPS encryption in transit, access controls on the seeder database, and limited internal access to your records. No system is perfectly secure, but the data we hold is small and the consequences of a breach would be limited to your name, email, and rough location. We will notify you and the Information Commissioner's Office within 72 hours if we believe a breach has affected you.
12. Complaints
If you're not happy with how we've handled your data, please tell us first by emailing hello@atreeum.co.uk. We'd rather resolve things directly.
You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK's data protection regulator:
- Website: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint
- Helpline: 0303 123 1113
- Post: Information Commissioner's Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, SK9 5AF
13. Changes to this notice
We may update this notice from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top will tell you when. If we make material changes (for example, adding a new third-party processor), we will email every seeder to explain what has changed before the new version takes effect.
